Horror Creatures Add-On
Shadow Boss

The Shadow Boss is a unique, high-difficulty boss. This fight features specialized mechanics, an adaptive arena, and a series of complex attacks that demand strategy and teamwork.
Spawn and Fight Rules
The Shadow Boss can only be summoned once per world. If a player is already fighting the boss, others must wait or leave the arena before starting their own battle.
Summoning the boss disables the day-night cycle; if it’s daytime, the world instantly switches to cyan night.
The boss has extremely high health and is immune to all conventional weapon attacks. Only specific mechanics during the fight can damage it.
The selected difficulty directly affects the fight. On “Nightmare” difficulty, the battle can last 7–15 minutes if the player survives throughout.
Attack Patterns
Contact Damage: Touching the boss inflicts significant damage.
Mouth Attack: Standing in front of the boss’s large mouth triggers a powerful attack after a short delay.
Tentacle Assault: Tentacle entities emerge from underground in unpredictable patterns, targeting the player.
Dark Energy Cube: Periodically, a dark energy cube forms in midair. If not destroyed in time, it explodes, causing heavy knockback. If the player is thrown to the edge of the arena, they take damage and must quickly return to the main platform.
- The cube must be shot with arrows to prevent detonation. The number of hits required to stun the boss depends on difficulty: 3 (Easy), 7 (Normal), or 11 (Hard).
- Successfully shooting the cube stuns the boss, creating a brief window for counterattack.
Anti-Build Mechanic: When certain abilities are used, the boss removes nearby placed blocks to prevent players from gaining an unfair advantage by building structures.
Summoning: The boss periodically summons horror creatures to assist in the fight, removing any remaining summoned creatures if this attack is repeated.
Defeating the Shadow Boss
The boss can only be damaged during its stunned phase.
When the dark energy cube is destroyed with arrows, the boss is stunned and temporarily “sleeps.”
During the stun window, players must attack the ghost up to 50 times to inflict significant damage. Each successful sequence removes a large portion of the boss’s health.
Normal attacks outside of the stun phase are ineffective.
Arena Mechanics
The arena is dynamically generated at the boss’s location. Before creation, it copies and stores the surrounding terrain, restoring it after the fight concludes.
Falling blocks with physics (such as gravel or sand) are removed if they drop into the arena during setup.
The arena adapts to flatworlds by loading differently to compensate for limited depth.
If a player leaves the arena by walking or flying, the arena will begin a removal timer. Players can return in time to continue the fight; otherwise, the arena and boss will despawn.
Upon creation, the arena sets a spawnpoint for all nearby players in a designated “safe room.” If a player dies, they respawn in this safe room.

Normal mobs die instantly inside of the arena
Safe Room / Exit Room Mechanics
The safe room acts as both the respawn point and a temporary refuge during the fight.
While a player is in the safe room:
- The player will be healed.
- The boss will stop its attacks.
- The boss will slowly regain health.
To prevent the boss from fully healing, players must exit the safe room and re-enter the arena quickly after respawning or taking refuge. Prolonged stays in the safe room allow the boss to reset its health and prolong the fight.
This mechanic ensures that players cannot avoid the boss’s attacks indefinitely and must actively participate in the battle to succeed.
Arena Removal
The arena is removed when:
- The floating dummy entity above the arena is killed (e.g., via
/kill @e). - A player interacts with the floating “Exit Arena” sign.
- All players leave the arena area.
Upon removal, the arena cleans up all summoned creatures, boss attacks, and resets the environment to its original state. All mobs within and around the arena are eliminated.
Rewards
Defeating the Shadow Boss grants a substantial amount of experience points (EXP), with the total scaling based on the selected difficulty. Higher difficulties yield greater EXP rewards.
The boss also drops Dark Boss Energy, a special item that can be used for trading with the Energy Trader, providing access to unique items or upgrades.
